WINTER BLAHS

Boy, have I got 'em.

I am not a winter person. Perhaps if I had a rustic chalet - one with a big stone fireplace, filled with crackling logs giving off a toasty warmth - and could snuggle in a cozy sweater and sip hot toddies apres ski, I'd consider being less hostile about cold weather. Somehow I've always envisioned people who have a chalet as much happier than I am. Weird .... Me? I don't even have one of those funky little accents that would allow apres to look right, so I'm guessing the chalet would be a stretch.

Despite the fact that I abhor winter, indoors I'm usually complaining that I'm too warm. I'm sometimes known as the Hurricane Lady in the Zoo. I can't sleep without a fan blowing on my face - maybe I was a dog in a past life and my psyche is trying to re-live the joyous moments of a gentle breeze caressing my face. Somehow, it's just not the same when I stick my head out the car window while I'm driving 120 km/hour (yes, I have tested this theory). Especially not when it's as frigid cold as it's been for the last few days!

In all fairness, we've had an incredibly mild winter so far, and I shouldn't complain....but that would be rather un-Canadian of me. We have frozen hot water pipes. The elementary school kept the kids in for recess on Thursday and Friday. The cats don't even want to go outside. My car takes about $45.00 to fill the tank - last night, I put in a whopping four dollars, because my hands were so cold I couldn't stand it. Unbelievable.

Of course, because it's been so warm I was still wearing a spring jacket until this week - forget about having gloves ready. I think it's confusing my brain. By the end of January, I'm usually going stark, raving mad.

This year, I'm just a meh, blah lunatic.

What?? It was nice yesterday... around freezing. Either I'm 24hrs ahead of you for weather or you get the Ottawa cold air blast. Gone back down again -8C at the moment. Just checked :)

Yes, it was very cold for a few days. I wasn't pls'd. I am not a winter fan either.

I love, love, love winter - at least the crisp air, bright blue sky Alberta winters. Great Lakes gray is a different story.

I will agree that I hatestanding around and filling up my car when it's so cold you think your gloved fingers are in danger of freezing to the gas pump nozzle.

A dog in a past life ...? Yeah, I can see that. LOL

R&R, I am with you on this one!!! HATE winter! Yuck! At least January is almost over... then only 28 days of February to make it thru... do I see the end in sight?

And it doesn't matter if it has been a mild winter up until recently... the cold still sucks...whether it is 3 months worth or a week!
