As a rule, I don't cry easily, but anything to do with children and tragedy will get me going. This evening I saw a news story that did just that. It struck me again how easy it easy it is to help a stranger, if only we'd try.
Shane Bernier is a 7 year old cancer patient at Lancaster hospital and he has a wish. Although he's lost all of his hair, Shane's bright smile and cheery personality have made him a hit with the staff. In spite of all he's experienced & everything he's yet to face, his wish is the kind only a sweet innocent would think of.
For his 8th birthday, Shane would like to break a record; simply to become the person who has received the most birthday cards.
That's it. And it humbles me beyond belief.
My card is on the way. If you'd like to help Shane's birthday wish come true, please send him a card at:
Shane Bernier
P.O. Box 484
Lancaster ON
CANADA
KOC 1NO
If you're so inclined, tell everyone you know and ask them to do the same.

Done Tweet - I'm telling, I'm sending - thanks for sharing the story!
R&R, I will get one out this weekend to him. I will also forward this to others. The resliance of children is amazing. This is one rotation that I am both looking forward to and dreading at the same time. This makes me think of an old saying that my granma used to say:" If you want to know what the face of God looks like, look into a child's eyes".....V
No problem! This one is easy to do! The only problem... Canadian post will probably delay it long enough so that it will reach him on his 9th birthday! :)
On its way -- what a sweet/sad story!
Thanks for posting R&R.
I'll send a card to him and forward his story on to others so they can too.
Hello, I was googling Shane's name because I saw him on TV but didn't have a pen nearby to take down his address. Thanks for putting it up. You have a cool blog.
Frederique
Bless you all - I sure hope his wish comes true.
