My new iPod is silver, because the kids have all the cool colours and I want them to keep their mitts off mine, but...colour me happy anyway!! The little sucker holds more songs than I can possibly think of, and I've been spending lots of time surfing. Talk about going down memory lane....and a few additions to the Soundtrack of Moi.
The Great Roller-Skating Era
The Great Roller-Skating Era
In my early teens, I lived to roller skate...not roller-blades, but the boots on four wheels. After the first time I went on a school trip to the Mimico arena, I had silver dollar sized blisters and a new passion. My dad had gone ice skating there when he was a young man, and I believe his words to me were, "Is that old dump still standing?" It may have been a less than an impressive location, but I was hooked and
Unless I was sleeping or in school, I was on 'em. They were decorated with white fuzzy dice hanging on the outside ankles, yellow stoppers and laces, and I vaguely remember Beebles and I spraypainting on small hearts and stars. Isn't that an intersting visual? I LOVED THEM!!! Either at the rink entertained by a DJ, or in the neighbourhood carrying my football helmet shaped radio, which was really cool by the way ... a couple of songs stick out in my memory.
Chantilly Lace by The Big Bopper - I requested this song so many times, I think the DJ was plotting to break my legs...maybe that's why he finally told me he'd play again only if I learned to skate backwards??? I bet he really enjoyed all those times I fell on my ass trying, but I was feeling pretty smug when he finally had to play it again. Hot Legs by Rod Stewart - Guaranteed to make every young teenage girl think she was hot stuff...especially if a boy dedicated it to her. Only the Good Die Young - Billy Joel - Yeah, thanx Billy. Like I wasn't in a big enough hurry to grow up. You schmuck. For hand-holding, *sigh* slowly 'round the rink in circles...Babe by Styx and Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin....although come to think of it, that one is really more of a slow-dancing song. Once I was dancing with a guy and he told me it was the greatest hard-on song of all time. Heheh. Trust me, bud, I noticed...
I've thought of him every time I hear it, so yeah, better call Stairway to Heaven a real multi-tasker.
: )
